Outer Estates - A collection of articles on outer city estates

Millions of people in the UK live in outer city estates where levels of poverty are high and job opportunities scarce. This series of articles, published in the now defunct regeneration magazine, New Start, sets the social and economic context and proposes ways of improving the  prospects of residents and their communities, drawing on examples of effective practice from the UK and further afield.

The series was edited by regeneration consultants Martin Yarnit and Jane Foot.

Learning cities and regions revisited: The R3L+ project

This seminar* presented findings from the R3L+ project which took a case study approach to investigate issues of quality in the development of learning cities and regions. Speakers from three of the cases (Germany, Romania and the UK) provided an overview of their respective cases with reference to issues of partnership, participation and lifelong learning.

Professor Josef Konvitz, PASCAL Associate and recently retired as Head of Division, Regulatory Policy, at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) delivered the TRE Networks Annual Roundtable keynote on "The European Experience: Governance, Place and Higher Education." Josef's paper argues for the acceleration of efforts to promote university and regional engagement and is featured below:
