More than half the population of the world is now living in urban habitats. Asia is the fastest growing region in urbanization with inequalities, poverty, insecurity and exclusion amidst abundance and prosperity. In the past decade, nearly half a billion Asians have moved to urban habitations, and the trend continues. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have historically been recognised to serve public goods, with unique social responsibilities in producing knowledge for societal development.

11th PASCAL Conference - Opening Day

The 11th PASCAL Conference has opened in Hong Kong with welcomes from Professor Rupert Maclean of the Hong Kong Institute of Education and Professor Bruce Wilson, Head of the EU Centre at RMIT, and a keynote address by Professor Josef Konvitz, Chair of the PASCAL Board.

PASCAL Associates keynote speakers at THEMP conference

PASCAL associates, Tom Schuller and Maria Slowey were two of the keynote speakers at the final conference of the THEMP project (Tertiary Higher Education for People in Mid-Life) hosted by the University of Barcelona on 14 November 2013.

Another PASCAL associate, Roberta Piazza, also presented at the conference.

Call for Papers: Special 2015 Issue of PARTNERSHIPS

The editorial staff of Partnerships: A Journal of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement announces a special Issue to be published with guest editors Brandon W. Kliewer at Florida Gulf Coast University and Judith Ramaley, President Emerita, Portland State University and Winona State University.  The topic for this special issue is Spaces of participation and democratic engagement: The public life of higher education reconsidered.
