A new study from the London School of Economics suggests that having more universities in a city is a good thing - but not necessarily for the usual reasons. Economic output is higher, of course, but the correlations with local spending and investment by universities, their flow of innovations, and even their role training and educating people does not explain enough.

The 2017 PASCAL International Observatory Conference “Trends 2017 – Between Cities and the Rural: The Role of Universities” takes place on 17-19 October 2017. Delegates are reminded of the change of venue for this Conference to Pretoria. This change made the Conference more accessible and therefore more delegates can attend this event. The change sparked an immediate increase in the number of Conference papers submitted.

PASCAL SIG: Public Sector Interface Newsletter: Issue Three: Regionalism and the Changing Role of Universities

The purpose of this PASCAL Special Interest Group (SIG) is to examine the interface between PASCAL and the public policy sectors. While this topic is a very broad, it cuts across sectors and issues, including innovative resource sharing and the role of institutions of higher education, and those organizations that develop policy. It includes the development of intercultural activity.

In this third issue, the themes of regionalism and the changing role of universities are considered.

ZUMA - UC Leuven-Limburg's open community house in Hasselt

I am happy today. I just went to the official opening of ZUMA, UC Leuven-Limburg's open community house in Hasselt – actually the place where I have my office. Downstairs has been invaded by lots of ladies, mothers to be, young mothers and babies.
