“By 2025 Scotland will be regarded as a world-leading learning nation” An international perspective - 30 March 2012

On 19 March, Scotland's Futures Forum and the Goodison Group in Scotland organised on behalf of the Scottish Parliament an international workshop exploring the proposition that Scotland will be regarded as a world-leading learning nation by 2025. It included contributions from PASCAL associates Ilpo Laitinen and Anders Olsson by video-conference, as well as John Tibbitt and Mike Osborne at the host's venue, the Parliament building in Edinburgh.

We are delighted to announce that the just-published March 2012 issue of the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement (JHEOE) is a thematic issue dedicated to:
  • Seven articles about Faculty for the Engaged Campus, a national initiative of Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) in partnership with the University of Minnesota and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • Three articles resulting from the conference Community-Engaged Scholarship: Critical Junctures in Research, Practice and Policy, held November 4-5, 2010 in Guelph, Ontario Canada
  • Three book reviews on topics related to community-engaged scholarship.

University Engagement and Environmental Sustainability: Grounding Knowledge. An Opportunity for publication.

We are in the process of putting together a publication that is part of a PASCAL book series concerned with universities and regional engagement to be published by the University of Manchester Press.  The series as a whole has already been approved by the publisher, and the first three books have been completed by the authors/editors.

Higher Education Reform 2012 Workshop - Pittsburgh Oct 10-12, 2012 - Announcement and Call for Papers

A number of PASCAL colleagues have participated in one or more of the last three Higher Education Reform Workshops in Berlin (2011), Vancouver (2010), and/or Mexico City (2009). I would like to extend a special invitation for you to participate in the next HER Workshop which will be held for the first time in the United States at the University of Pittsburgh from 10-12 October 2012.
