Launch of the OECD Review of Higher Education Institutions and Regional and City Development in Victoria

Dr Barbara Ischinger, Director of Education at the OECD, visited Melbourne recently to launch the report of the OECD Review of Higher Education Institutions and Regional and City Development in Victoria. This review was conducted in parallel with the PASCAL Universities and Regional Engagement (PURE) project in Melbourne.

 

Equity and Access in Education in Australia

The European Union Centre at RMIT, the base from which the RMIT PASCAL centre operates, recently hosted a visit from  a European Union Delegation. Led by Helene Clark, the European Commission Director for Lifelong Learning, the Delegation was in Australia for a Policy Dialogue on Early Childhood Education with Australian officials.

 

PASCAL Chair Visits Melbourne

Jarl Bengtsson, Chair of the PASCAL Board visited Melbourne recently. During his visit, he met with PASCAL Associates and other colleagues, and visited the new location in the European Union Centre at RMIT. During his visit, Jarl presented a seminar on ‘Education, Learning  and Brain Research: An International Perspective’. His paper generated rich discussion, and will be available shortly on the PASCAL website.

U-Multirank: Multi- dimensional Global ranking of Universities; a feasibility project.

This is a project funded by the European Commission led by a consortium headed by CHEPS in the Netherlands. It is concerned with field-based ranking of HEIs.

Benchmarking in European Higher Education

Benchmarking in European Higher Education is an initiative funded by the European Commission to improve the use of benchmarking in higher education and being run by the European Centre for Strategic Management of Universities in Belgium, the Centre for Higher Education Development in the Netherlands,  the Institute of Education and the International Centre for Higher Education Management, both in the UK .

U-Map - a European classification of higher education institutions

U-Map is a project funded by the European Commission in which earlier work concerned with the European classification of higher education institutions is further developed and implemented. U-Map offers two tools to enhance transparency. ProfileFinder produces a list of higher education institutions (HEIs) that are comparable on the characteristics that have been selected. ProfileViewer gives an institutional activity profile that can used to compare three HEIs. U-Map is presented in demo-mode.

Sustainable Development and Sustainable Universities - International Summer School at Kaposvár University (Hungary)

My colleagues and I (including Dr. Zoltán Gál) would like to draw your attention to the International Summer School organized by Kaposvár University (Hungary) from 4 to 16 August 2011. The focus will be on the especially tantalizing topic “Sustainable Development and Sustainable Universities” addressing actual global and local issues.

National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement [NCCPE]

Based at the Watershed Media Centre in central Bristol, the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement [NCCPE] was established in 2008 as part of the £9.2m UK Beacons for Public Engagement initiative.
