The Glen Postle Intergenerational Mentoring Hub

I’m delighted to have been able to have visited PASCAL Associate Glen Postle and see the Glen Postle Intergenerational Mentoring Hub at the Flexischool in Toowoomba. Glen has been working intensively in the development of the school over the past 20 years and continues to do so.

New journal of Entrepreneurship Education

Entrepreneurship education has received a considerable boost recently. This has ranged from the inclusion of entrepreneurship in the UNESCO Cork Call to Action to the PASCAL EcCoWell 2 approach to building learning cities.

In addition, a recent Springer publication titled “Entrepreneurial Learning City Regions” (ed James, Preece, Valdes-Cotera) provides examples of entrepreneurial action around the world.

Do Universities Have a "Democracy Effect"? - CityLab

A new study from the London School of Economics suggests that having more universities in a city is a good thing - but not necessarily for the usual reasons. Economic output is higher, of course, but the correlations with local spending and investment by universities, their flow of innovations, and even their role training and educating people does not explain enough.  

Help Build a Better Not-for-Profit (NFP) Sector - Centre for Social Impact Study

It might be out of Australia, but here is a workforce survey that can apply to all non-profits across the world, encompassing the organisations, employees and volunteers. This study is lead by the "Learning for Purpose" division of the Centre for Social Impact, University of Western Australia.

A delegation from the Interfaith Working Group of Toowoomba (Queensland, Australia) participated in the recent UNESCO International Peace Conference in Paris.  Among the many reflections seen in the Group's November Newsletter - featured below and attached - is the comment that there are common spaces in our uniqueness. 

Governing In and Against Austerity - Professor Jonathan Davies, De Monfort University

Governing In and Against Austerity, a report edited by Jonathan S. Davies at De Montfort University, Leicester, highlights the responses in 8 cities to the impact of the Crisis of 2008.  The cities are Athens, Baltimore, Barcelona, Dublin, Leicester, Greater Dandenong Melbourne, Montreal and Nantes.  

University of resilience in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine

Several local and international organizations are working on a project of revitalization of a former factory into an innovative learning space (we call it "university of resilience") in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. The special thing about this project is that is is a completely bottom-up-initiative and has to function due to crowd investing and impact investing. 14th PASCAL Conference opens with inspiring introduction by Enrico Jacobs of Belgium Campus

I am delighted to report that the 14th PASCAL Conference has opened in Pretoria with an invigorating introduction from the Vice-Chancellor of the Belgian Campus, Enrico Jacobs.

PASCAL Conference 2018: Updated title and sub-themes

The 15th PASCAL Conference, to be held in Korea on 30 August - 1 September 2018 has an updated title and sub-themes. The venue is the city of Suwon, part of metropolitan Seoul, Korea. The co-organiser is the GyeonggiDo Provincial Institute of Lifelong Learning (GILL).  The main theme of this first East Asia PASCAL Conference is "Learning Cities, Learning Societies: Connecting Research, Policy and Practice to Meet Local and Global Challenges”.
